Shannon received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 2001.
After vet school, she moved to Alaska where she established Alaska Veterinary Relief Services, LLC, practicing veterinary medicine at numerous urban and rural clinics and The Alaska Zoo.
Since 2011, she has been traveling between Turtle Island, The Pet Stop Veterinary Clinic in Alaska, international turtle conservation projects, and working as a Conservation Biologist for solar energy projects and military training grounds in California and Nevada.
She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians, Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) and the Desert Tortoise Council.
In 2012, she established Biota Consulting, LLC as a platform to combine veterinary medicine and conservation to continue to fulfill her lifelong commitment to the health and well being of all animal species.
